Bruce Burr

Bruce BurrWhile born in Texas, Burr spent his formative years in Wyoming. Surrounded by the economic landscape of south central Wyoming, the need of sensual extraction took hold in his imagination. The perceived desolation formed a jungle of opportunity, the weak warmth of the sun, the pervasive wind and the locals' clipped interpretation of events established in his young mind the notion that appearance holds a secret that frequently outstrips reality.

Later, in Colorado, after the requisite American education, high school in a football crazed community, a foray into literature at university, he left. Landing in Paris, he worked in the haute couture at Yves Saint Laurent, discovering the essentials of design: balance, simplicity and allure.

Secrets reappear.

The vicissitudes of fact retuned him to the U.S. where he initiated what good training created: a foray into custom designed clothes for a delightful clientele. Art, a nagging drum beat in an under—used mind, found expression in an seasonal poster for Opera Colorado, illustrations for a friend's magazine, theater murals, scenery, dialogue contributions and scribbles. This disquiet pushed Burr to California.

In California, Burr finally turned the screw and established himself, at least in his mind, as an artist of opinion. Burr studies the balance of absurdity and qualified fact in Laguna Beach.
