Luke began his career apprenticed to sculptor, Kyle Smith at her workshop in Pietra Santa, ltaly. He sketched the hillsides and small ruins on the way into town each day. He followed up by studying with his father, Howard Lamar, at his studio in Carmel-by-the-Sea in various mediums; watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, and acrylic.
Started sketching his family and friends and the Monterey, Pacific Grove areas and apprenctied with neo-classical artist Tony Otto on a number of fine art comissions and three dimensional trompe l'oeil environments. Studied as well with Daniel Herron and Patricia Herron learning California- expressionism; landscape, figurative, and abstract.
Currently working on a series of original oil paintings on linen, Lucas has found his palette in the surrounding beauty of Carmel by the Sea. In this ongoing series of quintessential downtown scenes, landscapes, historical landmarks, and places that the early California bohemians, painters and writers fell in love with.
